Once upon a time, I had a grocery sack full of those keys from my days as a buried telephone cable contractor.

I took them to a mail box and dropped them all in...

I also wondered if they made it "home".

And why, pray tell, did you not drop them in the mail to be returned to the hotel(s)?

Also have a hotel room key collection from back in the days when the name of the hotel and room number was attached to the key. You could drop them in the mailbox and it would be returned to the hotel.
