At times of serious discontent in the country, such as in 1968 and 1980, voters tend to go for the other party, even when Nixon (very intelligent but personality/character-challenged) was the candidate. Let's hope history repeats itself in the present period of serious discontent, regardless of the candidate. .

National media seems to be gleeful to see Newt as Repub's frontrunner. That's because they know they've enough fodder to defeat him for Obama. Romney has a cleaner record - they'd have difficulty smearing a man who has been married to the same woman for many years and admits he'd rather not get cut-throat in order to knock Newt off his current perch. Good news is that Romney would not have to wage a negative campaign against Obama in order to win - all he'd have to do is tell the truth loud and clear about Obama's wrong-headed policies from now until Nov, 2012.
