12/9/11 Contest Update
Reuters financial columnist Felix Salmon calls the Euro-summit agreement a “half-baked solution.” But, judging by today’s stock market jump, investors believe a half-baked loaf is better than none. Meanwhile, given the austerity measures the agreement mandates, Europe’s 99% may soon be munching on matzoh.
At Friday’s close, the NBI was up 8.82% YTD (vs. up 8.91% YTD a week ago) and the Contest median was down -4.23% YTD (vs. down -4.45% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index was down -.23% YTD (vs. down -.98% YTD a week ago).
MCBIO’s portfolio (up 69.69% YTD) remains our leader, with JIBAC’s portfolio (up 60.71% YTD) and ROCKY’s’s portfolio (up 44.60% YTD) holding on to second and third place.
At Friday's close, 15 of the 38 Contest portfolios were in the black, while 9 were beating the NBI.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks ranked by % Gained and % Lost for the week (foreign stock prices are not converted to US$ in these two tables).
Portfolio adjustments: None

Contest end date: My inclination is to set Friday, December 30, as the end date but to encourage all potential winners to pick their charities earlier that week so tax deductions will be available for 2011. If anyone else has thoughts on when to end the contest, please post them.

Have a wonderful weekend biotechies!
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
