Nashville is probably better. It will take you through St. Louis (as will Memphis, but cutting off that corner of TN) where you pick up I-64 to I-70 to Kansas City; from thence to I-29 to I-80 to I-84. Going the I-29 to I-90 route may be out of the way to your town.

10 years ago a friend and I drove through Nashville at 3am. Half an hour and not a vehicle moving. Felt like the Twilight Zone.
