On the flip side, the quarter thus far was unique in that it had a 3 day span in which over 1 million smartphones were sold. That's gotta skew the "run rate" calculations, as they obviously shouldn't be expected to maintain that pace.

That was my thought when I posted the article but when I listened to the actual presentation, the analyst asked about the run-rate and the answer was that December is historically at or above the prior two months. He didnt caveat the answer by referencing the timing of the iPhone launch (as I would have expected)....I think that is telling.

This wasnt a random comment during an analyst presentation. AT&T wanted to communicate to investors that smartphone sales are so strong this quarter that earnings are likely to take a hit.
