This one is a can of worms. IMHO iPads are THE Xmas present to give. But Allen has a point. They probably would not be able to keep up with the Xmas rush if they refreshed in Oct.

I think that a lot of consumers did not give them as gifts because they were getting a little stale. Whether they were replaced with Android pads or not is debatable. Not many.

Perhaps they need to move the refreshes up to say July or August, or give them an incremental refresh. But if they start giving them incremental refreshes consumers would tend to wait.

My guess is there is a lot of discussion going on about this inside Apple. They may be thinking about moving the refreshes to later in the season but maybe at this point they know they can't make enough for Xmas if they move it closer so maybe later after iPad growth slows to a predictable level.
