I have a little experience with winter camping, and it is enough to satisfy my curiosity, I assure you.

We hunted elk for a week with no success at fifteen below. My partner and I looked at each other and said "Are we having fun?" Then we packed up and went home. That's when the elk started moving. We saw several being killed on the way out.

I've read both fiction and non-fiction about people who live above the arctic circle, and I think I would draw on that for my new scenario that your post gave me the idea for.

Conservation of energy was a big deal for native peoples. They didn't have insulation or forced-air heating, so they rolled up in their furs and robes and slept or 'messed around' (you know what I mean) as much as they could.
