Daniel,

Thanks for quick response. First, no one knows where the market is going? As to whether CPQ is fairly priced, IMO it's average. Yes, I did buy some back in 9/86 and again in 10/97 ( over reaction to split announcement)? I do own all my shares for a much lower price then todays.

As to looking forward. I don't know what your expectations are from stocks? But, CPQ should out-perform the markets, no matter if the market moves sideways, or if it moves down, it will be flat in price relative to the market. The reason I say that is solely based on the p-e. (which is low relative to the S&P)

Take the time to visit Bigcharts.com and request an interactive chart, where you can view all data for CPQ back to something like 1984. I like this site for comparsions of reactions to splits and other data. You will see for yourself, that CPQ has definitely out-performed the market over that period.

Yes. I much older then you. I was agressive with my ideas also. But, unless you are a real lucky person, you will not out-preform the general market over time. Adopting a long-term view to investments works best over time. Stocks go up and stocks go down. But, large quality issues will over time pay-off just as well as jumping in and out of market.

To me the best investments are ones with dividends. That may sound foolish now. But given time they grow to the point where your return for dollars invested, eventually exceeds the current rate. That may not sound like much. But I bought a little bank back in 90 for 10.00. At that time it paid a 5% dividend. Today I own 50 percent more shares then I bought and receive 12 percent on my original investment annually. Oh, if I were to sell the stock, I would receive 4x times my original investment. What I didnot mention was it was a dog for the first 3 years, was up something like 25 percent. If I had sold to chase momemtum issues, I would have missed it!

In the future CPQ will be raising its dividend, again, again and again. I will admit I listen very intently to youth for ideas on stocks. You are the real comsumers of tomorrow and right now, I think your buying alot of CPU's. If you have school age children (which I doubt). One of the first things you buy today is a CPU. To me it much like color television, just a few years ago.

Thanks for listening!

Ken
