When I was 12 years old, my favorite book was "Two Against the North" by Farley Mowat. He wrote the book "Never Cried Wolf" which was made into a feature movie. It was about two teenage boys who had to survive a winter near and above the arctic circle in Canada. I'm actually going to try out some winter hiking and camping in the next couple of weeks. I just need to get a 4-season tent, a 0deg sleeping bag and some of the right lightweight winter garments. I'm going to go to Mt Whitney first since I know the area well. Also planning on getting some snowshoes and crampons as more snow accumulates..
