- previously supported a cap-and-trade plan to reduce carbon emissions, and even filmed a commercial alongside Nancy Pelosi to that effect;
While he has clearly admitted the Pelosi ad was a mistake, his cap-and-trade support was pretty reasonable:
It’s true he’s never favored the approach taken by Democrats, but he said in 2007 that he would “strongly support” cap-and-trade if combined with “a tax-incentive program for investing in the solutions.”
Furthermore, Gingrich said in House testimony in 2009 that he still might support a cap-and-trade system covering “the 2,000 most polluting places,” if packaged with incentives for nuclear power and “green coal,” among other things.
- previously supported a health-care plan with an individual mandate;
Doesn't matter. It is unconstitutional. A moot point.
- proposed blasting North Korea with -- wait for it -- lasers;
Did not happen. What DID happen was that Gingrich supported development of laser technology to defend against NK missiles. A technology which shows promise, but isn't there yet.
- took $1.6 million from Freddie Mac;
Was PAID $1.6 Million for services in a totally legal, ethical transaction as far as anyone has been able to prove.
- began the campaign with six figures in debt to Tiffany’s;
And how, exactly, does that have ANYTHING to do with a run for the presidency?
- carried on an extramarital affair with a House staffer during the Clinton impeachment trial;
- tried to explain away said extramarital affair by saying, “There’s no question at times in my life, partially driven by how passionately I felt about this country, that I worked too hard and things happened in my life that were not appropriate”;
This, from a liberal, where affairs and even fathering children with other women while wives are dying of cancer, is not disqualifying. In fact, where the media prefers to not even REPORT THE STORY.
Not exactly a strong point for him, but last I checked, not in any way disqualifying.
- scribbled a note describing himself as an “Advocate of civilization, defender of civilization, teacher of the rules of civilization, arouser of those who form civilization, organizer of the pro-civilization activists, and leader ‘possibly’ of the civilizing forces”;
What, exactly, is the problem with this? Surely, you wouldn't have us drag out the self-laudatory remarks Obama has made about himself?
- worked for ethanol and pharmaceutical interests;
Yeah.
- supported the TARP bailout;
Which saved the economy.
- is loathed by almost every conservative thought leader writing today;
Inside the beltway conservatives. Seems to be fairly popular amongst voters. Most, like me, just cannot wait to see him debate Obama -- provided the chickenshit Obama will even show up.
- and by most every member of the Republican and libertarian/conservative political establishments;<?I>
Right. Operative term, "ESTABLISHMENT".
- called Paul Ryan’s budget “right-wing social engineering” and then, two days later, said, “The budget vote is one that I’m happy to say I would have voted for...So, let me say on the record: Any ad which quotes what I said Sunday is a falsehood”;
Any ad which quotes what he said after he withdrew the statement would, of course, be a falsehood.
- called for “a massive new program to build a permanent lunar colony to exploit the Moon’s resources”;
Sometimes, things that sound crazy now make a lot of sense years down the road.
- called child labor laws “truly stupid”;
Which they are.
- suggested that “a mirror system in space could provide the light equivalent of many full moons so that there would be no need for nighttime lighting of the highways”;
If Al Gore had come up with it you'd love it.
- said that “most profound insight I have read in the last six years about Barack Obama” is that “[Obama] is so outside our comprehension, that only if you understand Kenyan, anti-colonial behavior, can you begin to piece together [his actions]”;
Okay.
- was fined $300,000 by the House Ethics Committee for offering “incomplete, unreliable, and inaccurate” information during an investigation of a for-profit college course he developed while serving in Congress;
He got fucked.
- helped the GOP lose the 1995 government-shutdown showdown by saying that “part of why you ended up with us sending down a tougher continuing resolution” was that he didn’t get good enough seats on Air Force One;
A government shutdown which resulted in a near-balanced budget later in the decade.
These points are nothing. Really, nothing. Compared with the left wing nutjob currently occupying the WH.
If Gingrich gets the nomination, I suspect we'll see an unprecedented landslide. For that matter, if Sarah Palin got the nomination, I suspect we would, too. The American people are sick of this idiot who has put the country on auto-pilot. |
