I read a very interesting definition of a "meme" once. A meme is the cognitive equivalent of a loose gene. A self-replicating construct which often confers no or negative benefit upon the host. A mind virus.
Religions are (if you indulge the model) the oldest and most evolved memes on this planet. They grab a tight hold of the matrix - mind - and fight for territory. They reproduce (by being taught) and multiply, mutate and evolve. The fittest ones (Buddhism, Christianity) get major share. Some new memes are impressive in their virulence (Area 51/Communion. The X-Files) but will probably mutate into benign, marginal forms in a hurry.
The next Big Evolutionary Step will be the generation of memes for the Net, without the benefit of a protected food supply like the universality of a single corporate standard. Put'em all in the arena and let the fittest grow fat!

James, you have a good HEAD on your shoulders, unlike others on these
threads who are not so resourceful.

As for John Galt, he used his limbs, all of them, at once.

"The Arab Muslims also believe that they are "God's chosen people". Maybe that's
why they are bitter enemies. The ironic part is that Jews and Arabs come from the
same ancient tribes of the Middle East which makes them fairly close blood
relatives. It amazes me how religion can destroy the human brain as easily as a
bullet to the frontal lobes."

Well put, Jim. Oh my, we agree on something!!! This is truly scary!!
