A sad example of the very thing I was referring to. Today's news. Not to put too fine a point on it, but

if you look around you (whether it's Wall street, the local police department, the freeway, or the local grocery store), you know exactly what I am talking about.

Claude Shannon gave us information theory.
Smart people used that to build telephones and other forms of communication.
Smart people built processors and wrote software.
Then came wireless, and then came texting.

Who uses these things, and how? Do they understand the mechanics of what they use, the parameters and the potential consequences?

Car + Texting + Stupidity = Crash. [parents + society is to blame; not so much the kid]

Check out the analogy with the derivative-trading and the market crash. It's possible I am too cynical, but it also seems a truism that everything tends to operate that way.

Corrupt/Idiot Politicians + Corrupt/Idiot Regulators + Corrupt Bankers + Mathematics + Derivatives + Traders = Crash. [ the traders are not to blame; they are like the stupid kid with a new toy]

I'll shut up and go off on walkabout now.

:)
