That's why I want the catamaran. All of the comfort of a stinkpot with the common sense clean and green power source of wind.

When I start planning transoceanic trips, then I'll learn navigation. Until then....follow the coast.

know how to use a sextant

Not too many around that know how to do that now. Took me forever to get it right. I would be off by 20 miles or so. Sometimes that can make a big difference. I had a really nice sextant that somebody stole off my boat. Had to be someone I knew. Never did find out who it was.

Took a class through one of the yacht clubs and it was a bunch of fun because everybody had the same problems. They're probably offering classes in GPS and navigation now. I could hit the marker buoys right on using Loran C, but that's not supported anymore.

<<He should also take a course in navigation. >>

It's red right returning meaning upstream or returning to port. Nuns on the right and cans on the left. Kinda like clowns to the left of me and jokers on the right, back in the middle with you 60's thing.

I used to fish a lot in Canada in lakes with reefs. The islands looked the same. Always ran at 30 mph so I could match my distance to the charts.
