For short peiods in my life Carol those thoughts or similar ones have crossed my mind, and I always came to the same conclusion, "It is just not possible". Everything is too perfect for there not to have been a Divine creator to give the credit to. From the intricate and perfect design of the genetic code, straight through to the sun rising everyday in the east to setting every evening in the west. Right on schedule never a second earlier or later than the year previous on that same exact day......year after year after year after year after year.! Without the power of God there would be nothing. As a matter of fact Carol there was never a time when there was nothing. Even before this world age and man was created there were the Dinosaurs.
