IMO the money never existed in the segrated bank account for customers. The deposits were not put into this bank account although computer entries were made on the customer accounts. So just before BK they tried to reconcile the bank account with the customer accounts and all the money was missing. They used the millions of customer deposit and checks for their own purposes in hundreds of other bank accounts, collateral requirements and expenses so they have created an audit nightmare. It would be easy to do. JMHO.

RE: MF Global - Was the money rehypothecated to money heaven?
I did not realize assets held in collateral for a highly speculative loan could be lent back out.
I can see how this could negatively cascade if the collateral pledged is rolled into another highly speculative, concentrated or levered *vehicle* that blows up.
