I see no reason to doubt that Iran is serious about developing nuclear weapons. They hardly bother denying it. If Rep Paul has evidence to the contrary, he should reveal it.

Will Iranian nukes become a trigger for a major war, maybe even nuclear? Hate to say it, but looks like we'll find out in the not too distant future.

My personal gut feeling is that old civilizations like Persia may not be too quick to act suicidal. BUT - Germany circa 1940 was also an old, advanced civilization. Absurd, strange things DO happen. Denial is not a constructive approach to such issues.

Your assertions seems to be based on the fact that you believe the Iranian jihadis are all completely rational in their thought process. And that somehow their actions would be overt and traceable back to the Iranian government.

Bearing in mind the after effects of 9/11, I wonder what the results, socially and economically would be after a multiple detonation, not even in country, let's just say miles off the NW American coastline where the prevailing winds would cover a large portion of the country in radioactive fallout. It would be another generation before the country would recover, if ever. There may be folks out there willing to take a chance with that... Not this cowboy!!

Don't forget, these are the gents that are waiting for the 12th Imam to come up out of the hole in the ground he's been hiding in. There are a whole bunch of things out there in the realm of FP that you can screw with, get wrong and it's painful but not fatal. Nuclear weapons in the hands of religious crazies... Not on the list.

And not only that, but if ImADinnerJacket gets his hands on the bomb, then the Saudis will natually want theirs and then the Turks will want theirs and so on down to the point where the Somalis and Malays will want theirs.

Sorry, not worth the heartache. I really like most all of what Representative Paul has to say, but just not willing to take the chance on the Iran thingey.
