Yes, agree the basics are the necessary.

At the high school and college levels there have been subjects that attribute to free thinking-------these are the subjects that prepare one for free thinking.

Statistics and Probability: Helps one to sort through all of the claims made about figures

Philosophy: A survey course that examines Philosophical thinking and its impact on society

Psychology and its Development: Enables one to understand the impact of Psychology on people

Literature: American and English-------with the various forms, Biography being one of those I enjoy

Science: Pair it down to Biology, Physics, Astronomy, Chemistry--------within these, many avenues
can be followed

Languages: Latin, the basis of English: Choice of other languages depending on availability of
competent teachers-------French, German, Italian, Greek, Spanish being the main ones in the Western Hemisphere and also Hebrew, Chinese, Japanese and the major Arabic languages

Music: The Mozart Effect is very real in my opinion--------

As I think about Newt Gingrich and his being an Historian-------------understanding the history of any subject area helps us to understand the subject and to understand how we got to where we are at any moment as we seek the solutions.

Your turn now--------just writing and thinking.
