Sorting plastic from the waste stream is expensive. Why do you think there's a market for sorted scrap plastic at around $800/ton?? Anyone can go to a dump and the plastic there is free for the picking. If you sort out a ton of PET, HDPE, LDPE, or PP for examples, you can get around $800 for that. Most are roughly the same price per ton. Any guesses why people aren't flooding garbage dumps sorting plastic and getting rich quick??
