"here is a esoteric criticism as convoluted as your post:" My post actually simplified her philosophy. I defined all terms and presented it in a comprehensible manner. If you want easy, you might want to avoid all philosophy. You definitely ought to avoid Spinoza. Your apologist elsewhere admits to agreeing with all of Rand's philosophy except for one point. So you might want to find another champion for your bitter feelings! As to your current list of 47 points...they are laughable! If you cannot see that, it is regrettable. I surely will not waste my time in advance. However, If you give me that nonsense ONE POINT at a time I will commit to fully answering each one and showing how erroneous and contrived they are! I think that is more than fair. As to your personal animosity toward her, I know where that comes from. Even so, I am quite willing to discuss your hatred of her ONE POINT AT A TIME--even though her character has ZERO relevance to the authority or integrity of her arguments. But it may be helpful to air some of those feelings...YES?? Do you ever wonder, Koan, why Ayn Rand's books sell a million copies a year? Let me tell you why. People are hungry for honesty; they are thirsty for truth.. Rand's books extoll morality. People search for a moral basis to conduct their lives. They wish to live a life of value...and Objectivism is about holding values. They wish to have self esteem and self worth. Rand tells them they are worthy because they are human and because they can choose to commend the good, choose to be compassionate, choose to be kind, choose to be rational. Her books sell because she is a moral and rational alternative to books full of rape, genocide, racism, hate, and brutality. And those books are also best sellers so you must understand the dichotomy and the polarization...do you not??? She assures the young and the old that life has value, that it is not worthless, that they can find purpose and meaning--and even greatness...just by being rational and just by honoring who they are. She gives people permission to treat a rapist different than a person of decency and goodness. That is no small matter in a schizophrenic world. Most philosophy is either arcane or dry. It is exciting only to the intellectual--not to the common man. But Ayn made philosophy live! She made it leap! She gave it heart and she filled it with soul! That, Koan, is why her words outsell nearly every book ever written decades after her death. And there is another reason. Her words are true and nobody has been able to rationally dispute them! Having said that it must be added that strong truth is ideological by definition. If logic may approach perfection--people may not. There are no perfect circles in life. Some of us come by a natural conceit. It takes true greatness to humble us and to send us quiet to a corner to contemplate how small we are. Ayn Rand humbles me. Her incredible intellect and her moral philosophy simply dwarfs our surroundings. She makes our planet seem small in the universe of her intellect. And that is why people love her. And THAT IS WHY PEOPLE HATE HER!!
