'Wall Street' brought itself down. (The worst performing sub-prime mortgages of all were not federally qualifying mortgages. They failed at three or more times the rate of sub-prime qualifying mortgages.) And, 'Wall Street' didn't even need any actual mortgages AT ALL to create bogus crapazoid "collateralized synthetic securities"... they just pegged 'em to a synthetic index and cranked 'em out in the UNLIMITED (and with unlimited financial leverage) amounts that Congress specifically permitted when they BANNED the Federal Reserve, or any other federal regulators, from enacting any safeguards at all in this area. That alone GUARANTEED eventual disaster.
