HTC Says US Trade Agency Ruling "A Win For HTC"
Last update: 12/19/2011 8:01:33 PM

TAIPEI (Dow Jones)--HTC Corp. (2498.TW) said in a statement Tuesday that a ruling by a U.S. trade agency to block HTC from importing phones that infringe on a patent held by Apple Inc. (AAPL) was "a win for HTC" as the agency scaled back an earlier ruling.

The U.S. International Trade Commission narrowed an earlier finding that HTC was infringing multiple claims of two separate patents.

Instead, it found that some HTC smartphones violated only two claims of one Apple patent related to extracting information such as phone numbers from emails and doing something with the information, such as making a phone call.

HTC also said it would respect the ruling and completely remove the violating technology from its products soon. The ban on products that use the technology takes effect in April.
