<<< Or better yet, your child has been taken by the rich family down the block who sends you a meager check for your services. They say your child will be well taken care of and you can watch through the gate. >>>

Perfect analogy. In the days and weeks leading up to the Westell merger when all I knew was that Amati was seeking a financial partner or plan, I told friends it was like raising a child prodigy. At some point you knew you had to send him to Europe to live with a strange family and be trained by professionals. It was for his own good. You'd get to see him for a week or two every summer. And then off he'd go. But. . . but. . . but. . . you'd say, I raised him. He's mine. Can't he stay here???

Ah, well, no. . . you're not needed. He needs someone more qualified. Someone who can take him to the next level. . .

I guess the saving grace is that we didn't get to this place only to hear the world didn't want what Amati had. Quite the opposite. TI's singing its praises and claiming it'll be a $6 billion market for them within a decade.

So, I'm with you, buying TXN.

BTW, did you see the small article in today's IBD? Look on the inside front page at the top: "Texas Instruments Buys Fast Modem Firm Amati." Maybe it helped move TXN up 5 pts today.

It's crazy, I know.
