And LTE suffers a 12% royalty compared with CDMA's 4% or less. < They ALL suck and LTE performance is currently a "pain point" for consumers. There is real room for improvement and maybe differentiation here. > The GSM Cartel got enough rope to hang themselves with LTE. Qualcomm's CDMA franchise continues to boom [in whatever mode]. Wi-Fi is growing like crazy. There really is little spectrum shortage which can't be fixed by installing hordes of smaller cheap little base stations down to femtocells popping data from fibre and ADSL across a few metres to DeVices.

CDMA is not as efficient in spectrum use as OFDM, but it's near enough for government work, which is what the FCC is. Out of every dollar spent by subscribers on DeVices and data supply, a tiny fraction is going to paying for spectrum. It's such a small amount it's invisible.
