at the moment tj is in thailand gathering w/ buddies who presumably would not mind getting a second place to hold the place on koh samui. we are here to scheme out 2012 and map out where who what when and how of various undertakings, ventures, and adventures

yesterday we were having a bit of laugh on the deck and observed that our view to the ocean was blocked by an unfinished house (grey bare concrete work in below pic) that was slightly larger than huge

later, during a walk-about, we discovered that i am the part owner of the unfinished house Message 21359259 - circa 2005 (so i was off by a few years in guessing at the construction time :0) . the house took so long to build given the labour shortage on the island that the contractor died of cancer. we bought the hilltop land as a group back in 1999 (asian financial crisis) and divided the hilltop into 29 lots, put in the well and the road and compound wall, sold 15 lots to a london group, and returned enough money to double everyone's cash contribution and a plot of land to each. my partner insisted on design and building and so i limited my cash contribution to a fixed number (about 50% of my cash earnings from the project).

partner has had and continues to have cash and flow issues, and as the project dragged on, cost increased. any ways, the house civil (concrete shell) works are all done except for finishing (tiles, windows, doors, electrical, etc). the value keeps rising. we wait, for whatever.

i do not care for the location as the entire compound is on a steep slope, it is not suitable for kids and seniors, and one really cannot go grocery shopping w/o riding in a car. of course there are the domestic helpers to do the shopping, but still. i prefer beach locations even though security would be more of an issue if it is ever an issue.

shall return to hk in time for new year's party and shall return to this island later january for traditional chinese new year (year 4710, of the dragon) r&r, on the beach where the lodging can accommodate extended family and daughter's friend paul and his family.

the year only starts after chinese new year, the great financial this and darkest interregnum that, and perhaps at higher frequency and greater amplitude, but only after starting the year correctly.

the thai people in my view are much friendlier than the mexican folks in aggregate, do not seem to have as much proclivity to cut off visitor's head or predilection to kill them in still more exotic ways, and

islands always appear tamer than the mainlands.

koh samui has the additional advantage of featuring world-class medical facilities given thailand's outsource medical services industry.
