It's just a weak way to avoid real discussion substance. Conservative and Liberal are labels, misused to define political leanings. Many conservatives and liberals are religious, but many in both universes are not religious. I suppose in this debate one might make the case that pursuit of money and associated inheritable privilege is the true religion of conservatives in control. Win-lose. Neener-neener-neener. Thanks for letting me use the roads to move my goods, or the schools to educate me and my employees, or enforcing my contracts, but someone else can pay for it forward because taxation is theft of my property, me and my great-great-great grandkids earned it. Most Liberals believe in a mixed economy that promotes meritocracy and rewards; wealth that is dynamically earned in a competitive changing marketplace, not passed on to a permanent lightly-taxed noble class. Where every next kid has a chance to maximize his or herself in the marketplaces ahead, broadly speaking, minimizing social waste . And for the people at the top to pay their externalized costs , not the taxpayers, like in the rigged game of fracking where citizens are on the hook if it goes wrong thanks to unfunded Republican welfare. While costs can be higher, the Return-on-investment of liberalism is higher for the country and the planet. Conservatives deal in short-term profit, shooting the goose that lays the golden eggs if neccessary to make a couple extra bucks. And liberals support a regulated infrastructure where its a no-brainer for creating more prosperity, for example good roads, clean water, decent public safety and other services in the public interest -- the whole pie gets BIGGER and better. Liberalism is not a religion anymore than ice-hockey or farming is. And skipping forward to the typical internet turd-throwing -- nor is it described by the rightwing frame of Code Pink or Welfare Queens, both promoted by Saint Rush and O'Reilly. Liberals are FDR, MLK, and Thomas's Dewey, Jefferson and Payne, often smeared George Soros, son of a Hungarian-Jewish WWII POW and hero, and Warren Buffet. Arguably, with the tea Party's swings to the extreme right, "liberal" is closer to describing Teddy Roosevelt and Ike, too. Maybe even Barry Goldwater (...shoot straight...) Liberalism (not defined by political parties who are captured by money-theism) is the best of imperfect paths toward saving our human, freedom and 60 inch HDTV loving arses, from ourselves... As a constantly tested and improved process, not a Truth like religion.
