Each participant, at the outset, identifies the amount to be pledged to the WINNER's charity.

Hi Redlevel,
Sorry I wasn’t clearer. A major goal of the Contest is to raise money for a charity, with (as Ian states) the Contest winner getting to pick the charity as her/his “prize.”
It’s been a tradition for contestants to pledge a specific donation amount when they submit their portfolio selections at the beginning of the year. But that’s not a strict rule and it’s Ok to decide on your donation amount at a later time.
However, by entering the Contest you should understand that you are making a commitment to donate some amount to the Contest winner’s charity pick.
Peace & good health,
Bulba
