That said, they've never paid off for me. They're extremely volatile. But, a good investor should know how to profit in bear and bull markets.

I've used the short ETFs for balance when I wanted to hold a stock that I suspected would out perform the market... but felt the market was going to go down. Worked great.

Thx for the advice, bentway, but honestly, I don't think I have the right temperament for that kind of stuff. I am only capable of investing in the long direction with few frills. I'm too old of a dog to learn new tricks. I'm too conservative. But good luck to you on it! May 2012 be your best year yet!
