Every western democracy is a welfare state to one degree or another. but over the last 90 years it has been the dems who fought for the workers, poor, downtroddden and middle class; and the pubs who fought for the rich. Just go back and look at the 20's and 30's. Harding Coolidge and Hoover versus FDR. Today the Republican party is owned totally by the rich and turning this country into a plutocracy.
