<Average for such rigs is in the $200K - $450K range>

Hi Jim. I was looking at the numbers for SDRL as well and I come up with SDRL making a pretty good deal.

The avg. day rate for a tender is $131,000 according to this website:
rigzone.com

The news link that Ditch posted was for a semi-tender and the day rate for this deal is almost double current avg. prices:

The reason for the difference in day rates for semi-tenders and semi-submersibles.

<...the semi-tender as a cost-effective deep-water development drilling solution in addition to its offshore safety features. The cost savings stem from a reduction in the topsides and jacket of an offshore platform, TLP or spar. The savings on the construction of a smaller four-point jacket compared to a 16-point structure alone could be up to 40%, Aziz Merchant, the head of KeppelFels deep-water technology division had said in a previous interview. That works out to a massive $700 million shaved off from a TLP cost for a potential client.>

SDRL had a recent news release on a contract for a semi-submersible, reflecting a higher day rate:

"27 December 2011 08:44 GMT

The rig West Esperanza has been chartered on an eight-well contract worth about $127 million, plus mobilization fees, over an 18-month period, giving a dayrate of approximately $235,185."
