The real number if you bothered to look has been going down every year - and it's normally about 30K per year or less. That said 50% or 15,000 are suicides, not exactly victims. Of the remaining 15,000 - about half needed shooting - criminals and the other 7,500 are actual victims. Hopefully many future victims armed themselves this year so we can get more criminal deaths as opposed to more victims in 2012.
