The Air Force says it requires 168 people to keep a Predator drone flying for 24 hours, while the Global Hawk -- a surveillance drone that is larger than the Predator -- requires 300. It takes fewer than 100 people for one F-16 fighter aircraft mission, the report said.

I'm sorry.. I have to call BS on that.. I certainly want to see a breakdown on what tasks are being performed to fly a UAV vs a manned surveillance aircraft..

Comparing an UAV spy plane to a combat aircraft is not appropriate. Surveillance planes of all types require large staffing because there is a tremendous amount of data to be analyzed, not including staff used for operational and targeting duties during the actual mission.

A combat plane is generally not collecting this kind of data. It's on a mission of destruction. Deliver the ordnance on target and fly home to be rearmed.

Thanks for the article.

Not sure how it relates to the proposition that Obama is accelerating the demilitarization, reversing the strategy that was pushed to unsustainable levels during the previous administration.

...and yup, he has authorized and is vigorously pursuing a program using unmanned drones to achieve objectives that we had been using thousands of American kids on the ground to accomplish.

I won't begin to suggest that we have any business doing any of this, I'll take Ron Pauls lead on that proposition.

But the fact remains we are demilitarizing the ME.

And the fact also remains that Obama eliminated the purported mastermind of 9/11, and yet the peanut gallery inhabitants see no upside to anything he does.

The Air Force has stepped up training of drone pilots in an effort to meet the demand

Finally a use for all those kids who grew up playing video games?

Ron Paul is on CNN right now. He makes way too much sense to ever be elected in the U.S. at this point in history.
