At one time, motorcar owners had a "riding mechanic" to keep their hi-tech vehicles going!

>> A couple good road trips should slap the silly right out of them

I honestly can't see a problem with these cars for the few people who can afford an extra car just for short trips. We could use one, because we have a daily round trip from the country into town that is about 30 miles. But they don't make financial sense. At all. Why would I do it? And then add thousands to the nation's national debt at the same time, for little, if any, apparent benefit.

Road trips, for thinking people, obviously require a 6.4L engine at 10mpg. It isn't like anyone would be stupid enough to do that in Prius or Volt.

Natural gas is the future, at least for the next few generations. Clean, plentiful, cheap, and domestic. Unfortunately, we have a nitwit for president who has no energy policy.
