Great post Mary!

Zeta asked about my grandkids, if I had seen them lately.

HI Zeta,

No, the girl is five and the little boy is 2. I sent them a couple of boxes "if it fits, it ships", then I go down to our local left wing book store which has kid safe toys and fill the boxes up. Have them wrap every present. Paints, beads, puzzles, little stuffed animals and trucks for the boy?-lol-etc. He likes them?

What is funny is the way our family genes and occupations are, I am the wild card e.g. my son in law is a quiet serious tenured professor of physics and a research scientst in AGW at a major northwest university, his dad was chairman of a major university satistics department; my daughters mom and husband are lawyers and he was speaker of the house. Very high in the political and social world. And all very reserved and proper.

They are all liberals, but modest and quiet and have impeccable social skill. They never cause waves. Then there is me. Gambler, real estate agent and left wing provocateur who comes out of a hard core ghetto. Richmond california.

The funny part, my daughter told me is the 5 year old girl has my personality, she never stops talking and will even keep the conversation going when she goes to the bathroom-lol. And the little boy is built like me bullish build, with blond hair.

I am sure the entire family is horrified-lol.

I got the girl a "happy hamster' a little stuffed animal with a battery and it goes in a plastic ball and moves the ball along the floor. She said her brother loves to watch it and she carries it around with her and won't let the little boy have it.

She is very articulate and left me a long message telling me about it. Then she phoned again and asked me to listen to this great message of hers and phone her back. she wanted to make sure I phoned her back. My daughter is a solid 10 in the mothering department. As was her mother.

But being truthful I knew my inlaws were watching who their kid married and her parents and weren't really sure about my gene pool-lol. Ghetto, gambler, real estate agent-lol. They knew where Richmond was, living in Berkeley.

First time I met my son in laws parents was at my daughters law school graduation in LA. He is a famous scientist and she is an artist.

We were in LA and I had just come back from playing poker at Hollywood Park. I had a good rush and won $3,000 in a $15/$30 hold em game. That is a lot. I walked up the stairs unable to see his parents who were there sitting in the front room and before I saw them, walking up the stairs I threw the money in the air and shouted: "who is the king".

Their first introduction, to their son's, wife's, father, and future grandkids gene pool contributor-lol.

I knew exactly what was going through their mind. My ex even mentioned it to me and she likes me and respects me. She always was my biggest supporter. Real smart hispanic lady.

My other younger daugther, who lives close to them in Oregon, just sort of adores the whole scene-lol.

Ah, but you can skip all that if you just join a theological school of economics that doesn't believe in mathematical testing or proofs. Simple.

If you want to be a better person, go to church.>>

LOL.

We have millions of stingy church goers who would not give a hand out to anybody regardless of what Jesus said.

Look at the church going South that cannot stand it that blacks can ride where they want on the bus or drink from the same water fountain.

<<Keynesian economics is all about doing the math. It has nothing to do with religion or individual notions of morality and virtue.>>>

That is absolutely wrong! You aren't doing a scientific experiment nor can you. Why? Because politics is part of what happens. You can pretend all you want that Keynesian is some magic solution, but until you put things like ...politics, and demographics and human decision making in, it is way way more than just math. That's why it hasn't worked! I'm sure most definitely NOT talking about some religion or morality - I'm talking pragmatically. You want to eliminate conservatives from the picture. Well me too. (Of course I want to eliminate liberals too and move to the center). But we live in a democracy and while I agree with you that republicans screwed up big under Bush, that doesn't mean they don't have that right. They do! Democrats could have stopped them and they didn't.

And you missed the cupcake analogy. I likely stated it poorly. Here is what the analogy was meant to refer to; ....in 2003 and 2004 when the economy slowed just a tad (we are on a diet now), Krugman was out there arguing instead that the only place big enough left to stimulate was HOUSING. So we did. We force fed the already debt burdened public more debt - through easy money.
