Looks like Libya, Arabia, Iran, Syria, Turkey are all relatively literate. Pakistan - is pretty bad.

I could never understand what's the big thing about learning how to read. It's a matter of learning a few symbols, and correlating them with a few sounds, and before you know you're putting words together. It must take huge cultural prohibitions to keep people from learning how to read.
