We are just beginning to understand what the potential for shale oil is, and it could be huge. Bakken is the tip of the iceberg. It is a fact that there are many unknowns -- how much there is, how quickly production will decline, etc. In the coming year or two we are likely to find a LOT of easily recoverable oil in areas heretofore thought nonexistent or exhausted. Some of the Bakken wells are huge producers -- one had initial production of 7000 bopd. The techniques of horizontal drilling and fracking are just starting to be applied in other places (like Argentina) to similar deposits, which will undoubtedly increase the worldwide supply substantially.

We also don't know what the potential is for oil shale (as distinguished from shale oil), once economic technologies exist for getting it out. We could be looking at trillions of bbls. Lots of things that don't seem economic today will in 20 years.

I think you don't have a clue Ted.

We are much closer than you and the rest of your crazy wingers friends imagine. And even if every potential drilling site were drilled we would not produce enough oil to satisfy our needs. And that's because assholes like you think driving an SUV is a divine imperative.

Wingers? Remember, you are a "winger" too...just a Socialist left winger, winger.....

No, we are NOT close, there are many many places that have been blocked by the government, and technology changes every day. And , as I said, if the environuts would get out of the way, we could build more refineries quicker. I NEVER said we could provide ALL our needs, but we could sure ease our pain if we were providing more of our own product needs , and that goes for anything we do, not just oil.

There is no such thing as clean coal except in the imaginations of crazy wingers.

You left wingers claim there is no such thing as "clean coal"......period.....yet you feel the need to blow billions on electric cars that will go forty miles on a charge.......yeehaww......makes a lot of sense to pursue the advancement of one and not the other, huh?

...............if we all left, you all would go broke in a flash. Most red states aren't solvent without the financial support of blue states.

LOL!!!
Let's see....Texas leads
the nation in cotton production. Texas leads the nation in building turbine wind power farms. Texas leads the nation in raising sheep, cattle production, in in the value of it's oil and gas mining, gasoline production, Texas leads the states in MANY other categories. So don't you worry about Texas...you better worry about yourselves ending up living in caves and eating tree bark for dinner.

Texas can and would support many other "red" states and would do ok. How about your state.....could you go all green right now and support ANYONE?
