After years of hearing about Lyme disease, the public and the news media have become lulled into a measure of complacency. The truth is, we have dropped our guard and allowed the Lyme epidemic to grow and spread. In the latest Centers for Disease Control data (for 2006-07), Lyme disease had increased 71 percent in Connecticut and 39 percent across the United States.
It now can be found in all 50 states (but is most prevalent here in the Northeast). It is the fastest growing vector-borne disease in the country. ....
