".......justifies more than 300 million guns in the country."

One act does not justify another. Each act is just or unjust on its own. The act of protecting self and others is generally considered just, but as a society we are responsible enough to consider each circumstance individually before judging any such act. Actions taken in preparation to protect self and others against heinous brutality are likewise generally considered just.

There would be no need for locks, weapons, or other types of self/home protection if there was an earthy force which could guarantee protection for all, without becoming tyrannical and brutish itself. Laws have already been enacted to keep weapons out of the hands of heinous brutes who would use them for criminal acts. If you want to strengthen those laws I am all for it. There is no justification for stopping innocent people from taking reasonable actions designed to protect themselves against heinous brutality. Where they do, such actions serve to deter most criminal incursion... and occasionally necessary to put a stop to such a thing.
