Shares of Verizon Communications Inc. and Apple Inc. are attracting attention in late trading. Verizon announced at the Citi 2012 Entertainment, Media and Telecomm Conference that it came “extremely close” to selling 11 million Apple iPhones in 2011.

Odd that VZ would report iPhone sales ahead of their normal earnings call. My guess is that they wanted to hold the quarterly iPhone record briefly before AT&T blows it away with 6-7 million iPhone activations.
