zeta, the environment in the US is indeed far superior than the rest of the world. That is one thing I yearn for when I am overseas. However, the environmentalists here in the US make their issue very political. And it is very natural for folks to treat the movement as something repulsive when it is made political.

Just like the extremists, we have die hard environmentalists (geez, Greenpeace makes a living out of it) ready to oppose anything and everything that they feel will will destroy the environment. You think these folks would walk or bike to work because they would not want to own a car. Or that they would travel by public transport such as the train when traveling from say Boston to Chicago. But I bet these very folks would be the lone traveler in a car etc.

It should be a question of give and take whether it is extending tax exemption for the middle class or the environment.
