Good for her. What a remarkable lady - a cork in a stormy sea. What presence of mind to do what she did ahead of the break in. I'm betting she had been trained to use the weapon, possibly even an NRA course.

Her: "I'm here by myself with my infant baby, can I please get a dispatcher out here immediately?" "I've got two guns in my hand. Is it OK to shoot him if he comes in the door?"

Me: "We'll get there as soon as possible, but ma'am, you've got 2 dispatchers already in your hands. Defend yourself and your baby."

It's common to diss 911 operators, but this was a perfect example of how one should advise a caller. I was proud of her.

We have a similar situation on our volunteer fire lookout, which is a two mile walk from a single lane dirt road and 65 miles from the nearest town. There is a sign on the lookout saying "No Guns."

In our training, the armed LEOs explain the radio-speak for announcing a dangerous intruder. They are honest enough to say "If we start heading your direction the instant you call, it will be at least three hours [conservative estimate, btw] before we can get there. Draw your own conclusions."

This place is far enough that 99.999% percent of the people with gumption to get there are good guys. But six miles away in plain view from the lookout five men were murdered. It was 1863, but that's beside the point.

I don't have any guns. No way. Nosiree.
