Many early Americans came here to avoid going to jail in England for stealing a loaf of bread to feed their starving children and families-------yes taking even 1 loaf of bread ended people up in jail in England in the 1600's.

The boats, the ships, that they came to America on were often rife with disease. Some died before they ever got to America.

The one thing that many had was the dream of a better life. Being an indentured servant was better than remaining in England. They came seeking a better life------ultimately they succeeded as their children produced Grandchildren on down to present generations.

I haven't read the book--------I know this from the real stories told by families of Virginia. It isn't the kind of stuff that one makes up.

I am curious to read what the writer wrote in this book----will get a copy eventually and read it.

Excellent. Thanks for reminding me of long-forgotten indentured slavery. I wonder if that has been expunged from today's American History texts?
