Thousands of US troops land in Israel. Aircraft carrier coming soon

How clever

1st, announce a major strategic diminution in military strength.

2nd, Immediately after, position forces to initiate a military offense against yet another country.

I'd expect that the proposed diminution (towards dhimmitude?) would take longer than the offensive buildup.

Could be that elimination of the Iranian nuclear potential could justify *some* degree of military cuts? This is potentially the single most destabilizing issue. Iranians are not shy about leveraging anything they have. Even now, before they have nukes, they are quick to threaten "unleashing global waves of terror" if their interests are threatened. Just wait what happens when they have nuke suitcases and are ready to travel.

Another issue is that with our withdrawal from Iraq it appears that Iran is emerging as the true victor in that war. This may be a crucial moment to "moderate" their ambitions of becoming a global power.

A victory in Iran would make our President look good and smell like a rose. It might buy him reelection, which would be problematic, obviously, in many ways. But maybe less problematic than having Ahmad-D run around, showing off his new nuclear button.
