That review makes the first book look much more interesting than the second. I've been an off an on friend of Theda Skocpol's over the years so have an affinity. But one of the failings of my discipline--sociology--is very bad writing--too many words, too many long words, awkward sentences, far too many passive verbs, you can easily name all the failings. Skocpol's early work, while brilliant, carried all those sins. Haven't read her later work so I'll take a look at this. Just a skim.
