I saw calculations indicating that with moderate cuts the debt could be paid off and the budget balanced over a period of years.

I would like to see those numbers. Moderate cuts will not do it. Besides - any forecast of better times is based on aggressive economic growth rates - that without a revolution - will not happen.

I guarantee you that no one this year will run on the cuts that are necessary. Hell - Obama is going to lie and spend to win - what cred will he have in 2013 when he has to implement austerity.

The only honest man in Washington is Paul Ryan. We are on the road to economic ruin - and Obama is simply stepping on the accelerator (with the lie lie lie lie lie that raising taxes on the rich will solve the problem). Do you notice that every new idea is to be funded on a tax increase on the "rich". How many times can the liar in chief go to that well?
