Canada has long carried a reputation as a haven for swindlers and stock promoters. In 1989, Forbes magazine labelled the Vancouver Stock Exchange the "scam capital of the world." We've never been able to shake that image, and Bre-X still stands as Exhibit A for those who consider this country an investment backwater of crooks, liars and ineffectual cops. That, more than anything, is what sustains our fascination with de Guzman: the nagging realization that no one has ever really been brought to justice for Bre-X. And, in all likelihood, no one ever will be.

<<The Philippino bigamist geologist" fell" out of a helicopter...does that count?>>

Would not count if (i) the geologist's helicopter was commandeered from the civilian helicopter company on the ostensible fatal day by a military officer of the corruption-free Indonesian airforce, (ii) the helicopter, with the military pilot and a single geologist passenger returns from the alleged tragic flight w/o passenger who supposedly dropped out of the helicopter by some accident or self will, in the deep dark Indonesian jungle, (iii) the body, in the deep dark jungle, was located w/i a few hours, rather quick, but the face on the body was longer recognizable, (iv) The military pilot disappears into his base and cannot be made to answer questions, and especially if (v) the geologist allegedly still travels from Latin America to the Philippines to visit his family, and receives visitors from the good old days.

If the above is all on the up n up, what would you think?
