Not to harp on the drug laws, but we have a rather unusual problem: At the federal level an in most states, there are laws that require EVERYONE to serve a certain portion of their sentence -- even, for example, marijuana offenders who are a danger to NO ONE. So, to make room for more marijuana offenders we have release murderers. fulldisclosure.net Until we do something about insane drug criminalization, we are constitutionally bound to release killers who aren't sentenced "without the possibility of parole" back into society to make room for someone who was caught in possession of an outlawed plant. So, if they fix the drug laws, I'll support elimination of the death penalty because I believe it to be less than ideal, but necessary to prevent killers from killing again. As long as brutal murderers are not put away for good, the death penalty is, to me at least, a better alternative.
