Gee, Mike, I thought you liked me! :>)

I thought we had an unwritten and unspoken understanding to disagree at will and discuss respectfully.

I also guess from your twinkle

" :>) "

We are still there.
This is one of those moments.

I agree wholeheartedly with this comment -
"People like me on the right want to change the DOD. The left wants to destroy it."

The key is both want to change DOD.
The left wants desperately to reduce our defensive capabilities against every little thing. The right is in danger of supporting that notion.

I know DOD has to change too. But because our enemies are gaining strength, we must make DOD changes that ultimately increase our offensive and defensive strength. The world is in religious, financial and corruption turmoil. Now is no time to pursue voluntary changes that create weakness in America's defense.

Tell me what changes you want, then I can comment on them.

There is a need to remember Eisenhower's final address to the nation.

We persist in spending huge amounts of money on useless weapons.

I remember Hyman Rickover's statements about the amount of time an aircraft carrier could survive in a serious conflict: about two days. Yet we continue to build them, obsolete as they are.
