We lost about ten carriers in WWII. We had over 100 in three different classes. Not too bad, percentage wise.

I guess my question is: If carriers are such a poor investment in military operations and security, why is China in a mad rush to get them?

Today's use of the carrier by the USA accomplishes at least two things: (1) Allows the USA to put a ton of airborne fire power on a third world target. (2) Allows the USN to keep humping those one star admirals into 2-3 and 4 star admirals.
