Left to market forces US would driving only with sugar cane ethanol. Only the tariffs prevented that. tax credit, which allowed ethanol blenders to save 45 cents/gallon on each year’s tax bill, and the tariff, which added 54 cents/gallon to the price of any ethanol imported into the United States, were mainstays of the federal government’s three-legged policy that contributed to the meteoric growth of corn-based ethanol production from 2006 through 2010.

The table shows that USD vs Real exchange rate is important.. cost differences not are not much it appears at today's USD..

How can ethanol cause more pollution... it's a 'green' solution LOL (heavy sarcasm)... besides who needs a rainforest eh ? I mean isn't that easier to bring back than a (tiny by comparison) swatch of boreal forest..

bottom line is the activists want all carbon fuels gone.. despite the ramifications.. those that imagine hydrates and such will be a solution to appease that dogma are Chamberlains IMO.. and besides all those ideas will have their own pitfalls and unintended consequences.. no different than fraccing ...

The Matrix is the real solution... we'll turn people into fuel sources instead of net consumers ;o) and the spent 'fuel cells' can be turned into soylent green ... think of the benefits to the unemployment rate ;o)

Maybe Cannes and Toronto film festival should be held by video conference.. imagine the carbon footprint they leaves behind with all the jet travel.. for such pompous meaningless affairs.. attended by so many 'activists'..
