A few of the NT authors were eyewitnesses.

There is no evidence that any of the authors of the New Testament were eyewitnesses.

The earliest writings were by Paul who did see James, Peter and John in Jerusalem three years after his conversion. He also returned to Jerusalem fourteen years after his conversion but never mentioned learning anything about church history from the Apostles. He derived his gospel from direct personal revelation of the Christ within.

But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ. Galatians 1:11-12

Paul (probably a Gnostic) did not view Christ as having a physical body.

As for the Gospel of Luke, like Matthew, its main source was the Gospel Mark. Luke was written 50 - 60 years after the death of Jesus.

Since the Bible was written in Greek to begin with nothing was lost in translation once it was written.

It is unknown how many times the original texts were copied before the King James Version translation. It is entirely possible that errors were made in copying the ancient manuscripts.

The Old Testament was not written in Greek. It was mainly Hebrew with some Aramaic. There is some dispute about th original language of the NT as well. Some scholars think that part of it was originally Aramaic.

In addition, there is a lot of internal evidence that makes sense only if they were written very early ie when eyewitnesses were around.

There are chapters in the Bible called "Proverbs" ...in fact the Ancient World was literally awash in them from Greek & Roman , Hittite , Babylon, Persian even the Assyrian/Egyptian going all the way back . Most any of the women folk of that time would know dozens of them in day to day living ..but the ones that pointed to any kind of literary formula for the idea of everlasting life , would get oft repeated and would be the deepest & most profound awe inspiring of all . Just the mention of "heaven" and you have everyone hooked and they are all still hooked to this day .

Towards the latter dynasties of Egypt there is a literal run on building afterlife/eternal life tombs and the industry of sacred tomb builders & after life preparers (builders , embalmers , sacred rites & sacred trinket makers plus the chanty priesty priests etc etc ) became full blown . Getting into heaven was the "rock star" dream of everyone at the time .

For everyone wanted "in" , that ever lasting life thing and became a mania but as usual it took a load of cash to do it up properly , so later a country peasant revolt in theology (Jesus the jewish Spartacus) was bound to arise where thru simple wisdom & righteous living was the proper way to bribe God . The only prerequisite was that what your right hand doeth the left hand had no knowledge of , whilst all the while you were giving away all your possesssions and living in any humble cave preparing . Something like this , a revolution of the peasant fisherman folk , a country preacher theology that included all that heard the call and not just the wealthy or priests.

Seems a logical evolution that religion takes this plebian democratic course , after all the tyranny & Kings that were constantly muckying things up for everyone with constant wars & were the only one's that got to go to heaven . An ancient version of "power to the people" and to the righteous comes God and also a good way to keep them humble and down on the farm once again . (Plus hopefully cow your enemies with this newest latest well thought out plan for eternal life , or at least convert them and power your soldiers as well)

You have heard the call heathen , now heed the call ...your body is a temple but your soul is greater... but never hurts to cover all bases , so both pray AND eat your Vegemite !
